UT3's Mark Rein: Seriously Guys, My Game Is Totally Great
Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games, loves Unreal Tournament III on the PS3, and he really, truly wants everyone else to love it too. In an interview with Pro-G during the PC launch of the game, Rein assured fans that the game doesn't suffer on Sony's machine, and briefly brings up that other high profile Epic game.
People are going to be pleasantly surprised. It's a really high end experience that pushes the graphics bar up even higher than Gears of War. There's more polygons, there's more stuff going on, there's more explosions and there's more things happening, so we're just really pleased with the way the game runs on the PS3.
Epic's taken some heat recently for the performance of the Unreal III engine on the Playstation 3, with companies grousing and some games delayed far past their Xbox 360 counterparts. Unreal Tournament III was delayed as well, and the official release date stands as sometime early next year, although Rein keeps dropping hints that the US might get it before Christmas if we all close our eyes and clap for Tinkerbell. As a result, the PS3 version will serve as a proof of concept for the platform, giving developers an idea of what they can do with the Unreal Engine on the PS3 with a bit of hard work and determination. Personally, the idea of getting PC mods on a console sold me on the game (since I don't actually own a PC that can run it), and I wouldn't mind waiting a little bit longer to let my wallet cool down after the holidays.

Does this mean that this would be the first game to showcase the PS3 graphics to be better than the 360?
Maybe it's time to get a PS3 instead of a 360 afterall...
Speaking as an owner of both a 360 and a ps3, I really hope so, and I'm guessing it will since the PS3 seems to be the platform that Rein is focusing on. For really beautiful PS3 games that clearly surpass the Xbox's capabilities, I think we'll have to rely mainly on the system's exclusives, or games where sony gets in there and gives developers a hand.
