Serving Up Indie Shmup Competition Winners

Varia.gif

One of my favorite sites for all things indie, TIG Source has pointed out the winners of the latest, greatest Shump-Dev Competition. This year the theme of the competition was “Options” and the winner of the whole competition is Varia.

Shmups are a great genre for visual experimentation. It’s easy to get away with an abstract visual design when the only real goal is to blow things up. Varia is no exception, it’s an abstract shooter which allows the player to clone enemy abilities and serve them back for ultimate destruction. Contrats to the dev Kairos for winning the coveted first place.

Take a gander at the rest of the finalists, they are all worthy entries and the best of all, they are free. So get downloading and let us know what you think.
