Schafer Has No Immediate Plans For Sequels

Over at Playboy, Tim Schafer was part of the various gaming bigwigs interviewed for the feature "Geniuses at Play", which also featured Phil Harrison, Alex Rigopoulos, and David Jaffe... but none of us care about those other guys when they're in the same room as Schafer. Well, OK, maybe we care a little, but I'm way more interested in finding out about Schafer's next development moves as opposed to what the other guys are. So, when the subject of sequels to his excellent games came up, Tim had this to say:
Schafer: I would love to go back and spend time with the characters from any game I've worked on, and I would love to make a sequel to any of them. But I also want to make something new. If there were five of me I might make sequels, but there's always some new idea I want to explore. Playboy: What if you had the opportunity to farm out a sequel -- not farm out in a negative sense, but... Schafer: Phone it in? Squeeze it out? Playboy: If you could give the reins to someone you trusted to execute a Psychonauts sequel, where you had basic veto power and could do general shaping... Schafer: It just all depends on the person. If it was a team that I knew and trusted then, yeah, that would be great. The team that made Monkey Island 3 was not under our control at all. They were really clever, smart guys and they wrote really great dialogue so in that case it worked out great.
Well, I can understand why he wouldn't want to hand his babies over to anyone else, but I'm also more than a little sad that we aren't going to be seeing any sequels to either Psychonauts or Grim Fandango anytime soon... if ever. It's OK, I'll just keep writing fan fiction where Raz and Manny team up and... uh... y'know, I think I'm going to just stop right there.

hmmmm but what about crossovers? Because Brutal Legend clearly looks like a cross between Full Throttle and Grim Fandango.
Just as well, If Tim himself isn't going to be working on a sequel I'd rather just play the originals one more time
