PS3 Dev Kit Gets A Price Cut

One of the major criticisms of the PS3 is the rather slim library it has amassed since its launch a year ago. Many developers have commented on the challenge of creating a game on the PS3 due to the architecture of the console and the expense of development. In an effort to pull more developers to work on the PS3, Sony has halved the price of the development kit.
The PS3 Reference Tool will now be available for $10,250 in North America, JPY 950,000 in Japan, and EUR 7500 in Europe.
"As more and more new titles are developed for the PS3 format, SCEI will significantly reduce the price of the Reference Tool in order to contribute to the cost saving measures of the development community."
Developers will not only get a price reduction of the dev kit, but Sony is also packing in more programming tools. This move allows the dev kit to act more as a developing station instead of just a quality assurance machine.

Sweet, now their barrier to entry is only 500% more than Nintendo's and 10,000% more than Microsoft's.
