Video: New Mo-Cap Equipment For Quantic Dream
The folks at Quantic Dream, behind the exquisite tech demo Heavy Rain, are moving forward with production of a mystery project with some recently purchased state of the art motion capture equipment. They have been developing the project for about four months now and decided to upgrade their equipment.
This is a very promising development for the company behind such cinematic gems as their first game Omikron: The Nomad Soul with an in-game concert with David Bowie, and the modern adventure classic Fahrenheit. Take a gander at this beautiful motion-captured audition that pushes the uncanny valley to new heights. It’s a bit freakish, but it’s effective in the way it can convey an uneasy feeling in the viewer with well-timed atmospheric effects and an emotional performance by the motion-captured performer.
After the jump is a side by side comparison of the filmed actress and the CG performance. It’s amazing the amount of technical wizardry involved in the digital puppetry behind this performance. Now imagine what they can do with better equipment. I think we are in store for something really special when they release their upcoming title.

Very impressive! Can't wait until I see Beowulf so I can compare the quality of the mo-cap technology.
The actress is so cute! Too bad the digital version of her is noticeably less so.
This is an old clip, actually. I first saw it at least a year ago and Quantum Dream hasn't put out anything new since.
Really interested in seeing just what they can do with this technology.
Yeah, the real-life actress seems very cute, but her virtual self has some crazy teeth going on.
The part that grabbed me was when she's pointing the gun at the viewer, it looks so real cause of the lighting and you can see real emotion in her face and eyes
This trailer grabs me EVERY time. First with the audition, then I get caught up in the scene, and when it ends, I always get pissed at the director for not casting her.
Seriously: Quantic Dream / mo-cap actress, mission accomplished!
I think the voice-over is crappy. but the demonstration of the (old) mo-cap is excellent.
Yeah, mo-cap cool, acting... eh. It could be the really bad writing as well, made even more ironic (or po-mo) by the reference to soap opera cliches.
Too bad, as Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy was interesting (at least up until the ridiculous last section of the game).
