Weekly XBLA Update 10/10/07

Today is a beautiful Arcade Wednesday for obsessive compulsive RPG puzzle addicts. I'm talking 'bout Puzzle Quest y'all - Infinite Interactive and D3Publisher bring this Bejeweled-style heroin to your gaming veins and is, of course, optimized for widescreen HD and camera support (Don't ask...isn't this one of those "Rule # whatever" situations?), as well as all the achievements, leaderboard and gamerscore goodness you'd demand. I will definitely be picking this one up, for 1200 Microsoft Points.
If you live in the United States or Canada, you'll also be treated to Toyota's new racer Yaris, the first "free brand supported-game on Xbox LIVE Arcade." You'll be put behind the wheel of a Toyota Yaris to destroy bad guys and finish the, y'know, races. You'll smile your Colgate white smile while sipping Mountain Dew and Thunderbird, all the while warm and stylish in your J. Crew fitted tee and Bugle Boy polyblend slacks. Are you a Mitchum man? Do you wear Trojan condoms? I sure hope you do, and I hope you use the Glad family of products to store your food! Have a General Electric day!
At least it's free.
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords delivers classic puzzle-game action paired with an epic story of good versus evil. The Xbox LIVE Arcade version of “Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords” contains all of the content found on other platform versions, but is now optimized to take advantage of a widescreen, HD display and LIVE features like camera support, Achievements, leaderboards and Gamerscore. Additionally, the game includes some minor rebalancing and gameplay tweaks to enhance the gaming experience. Developed by Infinite Interactive Pty. Ltd., “Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords” is available for download worldwide on Xbox LIVE Arcade for 1200 Microsoft Points.

Yaris is a quick, fast and easy-to-learn game that puts players behind the wheel of a customizable Toyota Yaris to destroy enemies, avoid obstacles, and finish the course before it finishes them. Players will enjoy customization options and an arsenal of weapons while they attack enemies and advance to the next level. “Yaris” features online multiplayer over Xbox LIVE, allowing gamers to challenge each other for the best time and score. Developed by Backbone Entertainment, “Yaris” is the first free brand-supported game on Xbox LIVE Arcade and is available for download in the U.S. and Canada for one full year.

I played Puzzle Quest on the PSP and I have to say I was a bit disappointed after hearing so much about how awesome it is. Sure, it's good, but I guess I was expecting more. I could see it being fun over Xbox Live multiplayer though.
