PS3 Is Smarter Than You

ps3eyes.jpg

It's alive! It's alive!

UC Irvine students Jayram Moorkanikara, Jeff Furlong and Matt Johnson just won the IBM's Cell Broadband Engine Professor University Challenge by linking three PlayStation 3 systems together to recreate how the human brain functions. Standard processors couldn't handle the complex computations performed by the brain, and other gaming systems are primarily set up to handle graphics.

"PS3 contains the IBM CELL processor, whose architecture is suitable for parallel programming and can be used not only for games, but for many scientific and multimedia applications. We have also demonstrated that a cluster of these PS3 can behave like a mini supercomputer," Moorkanikara said.

I could make some kind of snide wisecrack about how once again it seems the PS3 is better at everything except playing games, but I'm actually a little more concerned about PS3s across the country becoming self-aware and taking over! Don't say I didn't warn you!

I think that it'll be more a case of newly sentient PS3s deciding to off themselves after a severe depression from realising nobody wants them and seeing their newly created lobotomised version.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
