Hitman Movie WON'T Be Rated PG-13... Thank God For That

I was pretty suspicious of the rumors surrounding the possible PG-13ing of the upcoming Hitman movie, mainly because it sounded so damn ludicrous to me. I mean, seriously: what kind of director in his right mind would allow a movie based on that particular franchise to be censored in terms of violence? Well... yes, we all know that Uwe Boll would do his damndest to destroy the game's fan base, but I'm talking about someone who isn't him.
Kotaku's Brian Crecente, however, has done a little investigation regarding these reports and now provides this good news:
The sources tell me that director Xavier Gens is still working on the film and that Nicholas De Toth has just been brought in as a consultant not as THE editor. In fact there will likely be a team of editors involved in working with the film. More importantly I'm told that the studio realizes that to capture the essence of Agent 47 they have to make an R-rated film and that's definitely what the studio expects the film to get when it hits the MPAA "soon." In fact they are "embracing" the R.
That would be your cue to let out an immense sight of relief.
Hitman Movie To Embrace R Rating [Kotaku]

This doesn't mean that the film will survive testing as an R-rated piece. If the film doesn't test well for the target audience (meaning projections based on test-audience responses show the film being profitable in release), Fox could easily require a PG-13 cut - that's pretty common. No studio wants to release a film that most people don't want to see.
FYI, it's never a good sign when consultants are being hired in the midst of production.

it better be rated R, because the stuff I did in blood money could've been rated X, had they shown me mow down everyone in the mardi gras crowd. Now that's how you finish a mission!
