No Hassle for Halo 3 at 7-Eleven?

7-eleven_tumbleweed.jpg

If you want Halo 3 right when it's released but don't want to deal with the hassle, maybe you should check with your local 7-Eleven. DagBot at OLGn.net has plans for his first Halo 3 night:

I will be at my local 7-Eleven right down the street, just standing around playing Pac-Man and eating some nachos and a hotdog drinking a Slurpee out of my Halo3 cup. Then at 12:00 am I will walk up to the counter buy my Halo 3 and a pack of Red Bull and be at home playing long before most even get inside the local “Video Game Store”.

According to his 7-Eleven, they don't expect a line because they sold only 20 pre-orders, and they have over 100 copies shipping to that particular store.

Do you plan on going to 7-Eleven or another retailer? Or do you plan on sitting at home and watching the chaos from the couch, like me?

I had a friend who pulled this trick with the last HP book. Instead of waiting until 2:00 or later to get it at the Barnes and Noble, she just went down to the local 24-hour grocery store and picked up a copy at midnight.

Getting popular midnight-release-party items at non-traditional outlets seems to work out pretty well.

I plan on sitting at home and playing more Bioshock, myself.

Unfortunately, I kept telling myself, "Oh, I'll get a 360 before Halo 3." That didn't end up happening and if I were to purchase one, I would pretty much bankrupt myself.

Alas, I'll have to wait for one of my friends to buy it before I can spend some quality time with Master Chief again. :(

I ordered from 7/11. I have one in my building actually, so I'm just going to go downstairs and snatch it up. At the time I pre ordered, I was the only one at my store and that was last week...

The closest GS to my place says they have an ungodly amount of orders and plans on being open way late, blah bla blah... so I said fine, I'll get the game at 7/11 and be home and playing the game by 12:10 ;)

Now, lets see if they actually deliver on having the product...

I personally like the "large" release parties. I think they are a cool way to meet people with the same interests as you (especially when that interest is Halo 3!)

The best part of all the pre-release hype is just hearing and seeing the stupid stuff people have to say, so you can guarantee I'll be in line at a gamestop waiting for it

I'll just wait for the call and saunter in at some convenient time to pick up my pre-order. It's a game, not a life-saving vaccine, and I've got plenty else to do to keep me busy until I actually do geta hold of my copy.

Never thought about going to 7 Eleven. I live in NYC and we only have a couple but I guarantee you no one is thinking they will carry it. Good info....thanks!

As a head's up, I recieved a phone call from 7/11 this morning to let me know that they WILL NOT be selling the game at midnight, rather they will be selling it only from 7-3 tommorow!!!! After I argued with the store manager for several minutes, they finally agreed to sell just my copy to me at midnight, but be forewarned. As a note, they have several official press releases on their website confirming their midnight release. Here's a copy of the letter I sent to their coporate offioes:

"I went into the store to Pre-Order a copy of Halo 3 at this location since it is literally steps from my house. I am very excited about 7/11 carrying Halo 3 as it is another opportunity for the expansion of game sales. The clerk who rang me out verified that the game will be available at 12:01 on 9/25, however I recieved aphone call this morning (9/24) from the store telling me that the game will only be available between 7am and 3pm on 9/25. After talking to the store manager for a few minutes, he finally agreed to have my copy available at 12:01 for me.

There are a few issues I have here. If the company has decided to not sell the game at 12:01, as previously promised, then us customers who believed in the company should have been made aware earlier so that we can make arrangements at one of the several major retailers selling the game at 12:01, including Game Stop, Best Buy, Meijer, Wal-Mart, etc. Also, it seems that the manager was bending policy to be more convienient to his own personal schedule, as that is the only reason I can see that the game would only be available from 7-3. That is completely unacceptable. As someone that has spent years in retail management, I can tell you that sometimes, actually a lot of times, you need to move your personal schedule around to meet the needs of the store. If he is the only one comfortable selling the game, then he should be there at midnight to do so.

I find this to be unacceptable on many levels. If the company wants to get in on the profits that this game will achieve, then they need to be willing to play the game the same way other retailers are. Add to that the stores will be open at midnight anyway, and there is no reason that the game shouldn't be sold!"

The DM called and said the SM was out of line. The stores will be selling it, everything is a go. False alarm everyone! ;)
