Stranglehold Demo Up On Live, PC Requirement Truly Outrageous
Yet another demo has jumped up onto Xbox LIVE, well maybe not so much jumped its way up...more like Jon Woo'd its way up...or something. Yeah. Still, the demo for the fantastic looking Stranglehold is now available for Xbox 360. Here's some info on the download from Major Nelson:
- Price: Free
- Availability: Not available in Germany
- Dash Text: [ESRB: M (Mature) BLOOD,DRUG REFERENCE,INTENSE VIOLENCE] Play as Inspector Tequila in this single-player demo and engage in cinematic firefights, inspired by John Woo, blasting your way through a fully destructible Hong Kong marketplace.
- Size: 1.28 GB
That's a slightly larger demo than usual, eh? Well, not nearly as large as the installation for the upcoming PC version. Get this, the installation weighs in at a hefty 15 gigs. ...and that's not even the most outrageous part. When I first saw these minimum requirements in the Midway forums, it finally hit me that my PC is now, officially, outdated. Read 'em and weep:
- Windows XP SP2 / VISTA (Games for Windows compliant)
- Dual Core Processor
- 2 Gigs of Ram
- Nvidia 7800 or higher / ATI x1300 or higher
- Disk space: 15 gigs
These requirements are outrageous, truly, truly, truly outrageous!! Time for a new motherboard, RAM and video card, I suppose. What do you think about this? As for the demo on Xbox LIVE, I hope to give a shot tonight to take out my frustrations over my woefully inadequate gaming PC.

Asian Max Payne worth that much memory?
I THINK NOT
Woo hoo! I've been waiting for a demo of this to hit! Even though I plan on eventually buying the PS3 version, still...
(zips to Live Marketplace)
I just tried the demo and I ended up disappointed, I expected much more from the people that made PsyOps. I'm not a graphics whore, and despite I appreciate the smooth frame rate and destruction galore, there's something off about the look of the game, characters look ugly to me, animation is a bit weird, and what really kills the whole thing is the lighting, indoors and outdoors all look the same, I don't get it. Gameplay wise I found all the gunfire to be pretty tiresome, I know those movies are supposed to be like that, but by the end of the demo I was fed up...
Yeah... not really interested in this one. I'll pass.
Geez, am I supposed to take out a mortgage or something to upgrade my PC to play this?
I guess I'll just have to stick to watching Hard-Boiled while jumping around the living room with two NES lightguns... sigh
I've played through the demo four times now.
I'll let that speak for itself. :)
The Asian Max Payne reference stands...but I played the demo through 5 times in a row yesterday. Which either informs us I need new video games badly, or this one's actually pleasantly addictive. Or both. Probably both. I might actually get this one. Its amazing how much playable demos have been influencing my interest lately.
