Comic Con 07: God Of War: Chains Of Olympus Hands-On
While we saw it at E3, at Comic Con Sony gave both Fruit Brute and me a nice long time to sit down with God of War: Chains of Olympus at a party with an open bar and plenty of sushi (while chatting with the Sony peeps about ambient hotties and how Comic Con seemed to have lowered all of our standards precipitously). Both of us played through the entire demo (watch some of it above, although you might have seen it before), which takes place in the midst of a war-torn but otherwise lovely coastal city, and we both agreed that the PSP iteration of God of War, which is a prequel to the previous two games, is so perfectly similar to its predecessors that there's almost nothing else to say about it.
Zooming over the harbor filled with burning ships and swarms of soldiers in typical GoW cinematic style, the PSP looked better than I'd ever seen it look before, and the performance was almost preternaturally smooth for the PSP. Dropping down to possess Kratos and begin chain-blading his way through enemy soldiers, the game played virtually identically to the PS2 games - the controls and context-sensitive combat killing moves were all familiar and appropriately dramatic: while attempting to lift open a door by traditional mashing, a Cyclops on steroids burst through the door and bore down on poor defenseless Kratos...
...just in time to be devoured by an enormous, fire-breathing monster who shoved its room-sized head in through the wall. This boss, exhausted by Kratos' whirling attacks and adroit dodging, we eventually defeated with the button combos you'd expect, pushing Kratos to perform acts of murderous acrobatics.
Q4 2007 can't come quickly enough.

Oh man! I can't get me enough Kratos!!!
I will most definitely preorder this title on my next paycheck!
