Capcom Backgrounds: Art in the Art of War

sf2st-blanka.jpg

Connoisseur of overlooked art, Slateman, has composed a number of treatises on some of the most neglected art in gaming, the humble fighting game background. Focusing on the works of Capcom in their various Street Fighter, Marvel Versus, Darkstalkers, and other series, he blows up a number of these familiar yet rarely scrutinized masterpieces to their full sizes and comments on the particulars and peculiarities of each. Overall, a surprisingly fascinating look into some of the best art you never knew you always loved.

I always did love Capcom and SNK's backgrounds. Too bad they started going for more 3-D backgrounds in their last few games, the hand-draw ones always had more personality.
Ken's stage in Street Fighter ALpha 2 is probably my all-time favorite, it's loaded with Capcom cameos and little quirks (like how Strider will toss the teddy bear he holds into the air whenever someone does a Super Move).
Good times...I might have to make some desktop wallpapers with these...

Do post a link if you do! Some of the Marvel and Darkstalker backgrounds are particularly covetable!
