Starcraft 2 Announced
This morning, at the Starcraft Worldwide Invitational in Seoul Korea, a week of countdowns and timelines came to its climax with Blizzard's announcement of their next much-speculated opus: Starcraft 2.
Already media scraps are starting to make it online, the biggest being one of Blizzard's typically jaw-dropping announcement cinematics (look below). That aside, Blizzplanet has a bit of info on 5 new units (like the Terran reapers, Protoss stalkers, and suicidal zerglings), while IGN has a gallery of 17 screenshots, random Koreansite.com has some tortuously slow gameplay videos, and GameBrink.com has a few other in-game clips of the slightly less slow variety. As of yet, the Blizzard website hasn't updated with the news, but you can bet there's going to be a few new tidbits on there any minute now.
Although everything's already looking super polished, there's been no news of even the vaguest general release date... so get your anticipation engine revved up, but be prepared to keep it running hot for a while. As if it won't be worth it.
So, without further adieu, here's the video you'll be seeing again and again for the rest of the weekend:
Update: Blizzard's Starcraft 2 page is up now (with an awesomely appropriate quote on the intro page). Artwork, wallpapers, faction profiles (currently featuring the Protoss), and limited edition statues (!) are all being shown off, along with trailers (in English?) that I can't quite get to download yet since me and a billionty other folks are trying to get them at the same time. There's a lot here and it's going to take a while to pour over, but the cool factor definitely isn’t getting any lower.
Update 2: Yes, the trailer on the Blizzard page is the same as above but in both English and gorgeous widescreen. On top of that, once you can understand what the dude's saying, it's obviuos that a game has never—Never—had a more appropriate tagline.

As I told someone on another forum, I think I may have wet myself when I saw this news.
I think now, however, that it's pretty obvious we won't be seeing a World of Starcraft as Blizz's next MMO.
I don't know.
They made WOW after Warcraft 3, maybe they just want to set up the storyline first.
Bad Chewey. It would be UNIVERSE of Starcraft. :D
I'm sooo happy to finally see this news finalized. I knew it was coming, but it's always nice to finally see it for realz.
For the folks who don't want to go hunting for the English trailer or who don't want to have to download it (it's been at 0% for the last 2 hours for me I think their servers are backed up to kingdom come) somebody stuck it on Youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wBM-Zz_t2A&watch_response
I saw and... Damn I can't wait! *_*)/
I guess I will play again Starcraft to be ready. Oh yeah!
This amazing
now people can start bitching about wanting Diablo sequels

LOL
I wanted to play SC again with a better resolution (wich is of course impossible) and I end up finding this.
*___* kinda amused!
I think the whole thing is a financial scam and a load of crap.
No release date, not even a vague one. No details except that the PC and Mac versions ship simultaneously.
I'm becoming a bigger and bigger fan of the Apple school of product roll-out, no statements until release OR show a working device with a specific, near term ship date.
A real announcement would be WoW for Wii or StarCraft II for Wii as part of the release strategy!
Words cannot express how happy I am that it's not another MMO. Starcraft II = WIN.
I have a stupid question:
I've never really played the first one. I've never really been a big RTS fan, but this is one that many seem happy with. The last Strategy game of any kind that i've both played and enjoyed was Advance Wars DS. Is the first one worth revisiting or are nostalgia glasses required? I realize that not all great games can age well without the "you had to be there" element(Adventure, LoZ1, Halo1, etc.).
Miracles do come true... and if not that, at least the world makes sense again now that successful game franchises are continued.
I'm so happy right now, I could explode.
Game-boi:
Try to find a copy, it really is quite good.
You know, something i didn't say online yet, When i was living in Seoul, I was in the Private French high school. On T.V they had a live championship of Starcraft with sponsors, Lights, Special effects and a babe or two I forgot, I didn't care that last part :P.
But anyway, The show were doing a international championship so they ask the best player in my school to go to the show and fight for France! I tried my best at the Pre-qualification selection but atlas, It was this guy that finished school years ago who got knighted by local starcraft fans in a party (I remembered one or two guys yelling "Vive La France" that night ;) ).
He lost but for a few days, the entire school were hook on the show, even the principal! I'll remember that day and I'll tell my grandkids about it! I'm glad to know that the adrenaline of my youth has finally come back! Stracraft 2 is a blessing! Thank you Blizzard! And thank you everyone to make my dream of old come true!
game-boi,
LoZ1? Really? You listed that as a game of the class you're talking about? Oh man, I still love that game.
But in answer to your question, yes go find/download a copy. It's a wonderfully fun game.
