PSP Online Store This Fall? 'Hardware Refresh?'

Sony Gamers Day has fluffed up a veritable buttload of PS3 news (90 third party PS3 titles this year and 15 exclusives does indeed qualify as a buttload, says the National Institute of Standards and Technology), but the PSP got some loving as well. And not just the whopping 140 new titles a-launching on the handheld system this year: SCEA president Jack Tretton admitted that an online store for the PSP was long overdue:
"I think the advent of a long awaited and quite frankly long overdue ability to deliver a downloadable service for the PSP will help us out a great deal... Hopefully we'll have it out there by the fall."
No more was said, but anyone with a PS3 and PSP who's used the Remote Play system to access the PlayStation3 online store through their PSP can testify that it's not a bad idea. In fact, last night I successfully paired my PSP and PS3 for the first time (it didn't work originally, but I hadn't tried again for several firmware updates), and I have to say that the experience was far cooler than I'd expected. Streaming music and video to my PSP with no lag was a blast, and navigating the online store was fun and easy and hardly at all different from using the PSP's native browser - Remote Play even let me select the new-ish "download in background" option from my PSP. Set me up with an online store I can connect to wirelessly to download PS1 (and PS2, please?) titles, demos, videos and so on and I'm there, cash-in-hand.
Also touched upon briefly were the words "hardware refresh" in connection with the PSP. Whether this is the long-prophesied redesign or some more marginal improvement is anybody's guess. Care to guess?

I'm really pleased that there are a good number of PSP releases coming. I have a PSP, and I want to love it oh-so-much, but the library has totally sucked. There are a couple of games out right now that I want, and a whole bunch coming up that intrigue me. Looks like the PSP can make a comeback.
I would very much like to DL PS1 faves right from my PSP without having to pay $600 for the privilege...
