Final Fantasy: Three New PSP Screens

Final Fantasy I: The Box Art!

Square-Enix has seen fit to release three more screenshots for the 14,000th remake of Final Fantasy that will be coming up for the PSP. Personally, and I'm likely to be ridiculed for this, I don't really care all that much for the look of these new remakes. Perhaps I need to see it as it's own game? Or perhaps hold it in my hand and look upon it with my own eyes? We'll see. While super crisp and all that jazz, it could be the fact that after having bought all the previous remakes (as well as the original), I'm just jaded. I am, however, very much looking forward to the 3D remake of Final Fantasy IV. In the meantime, my jury is out on this particular version of FF I. Anyone care to convince me to drop money on these full priced games?

For the screenshots, make the jump.

Naw, not going to convince you. But I will be getting some FFI PSP goodness. I DIDN'T buy any of the 13,999 remakes of this title. Last time I played it was on the NES years and years ago.

These screenshots remind me of some second-rate flash games I've played for free online. Not that it's bad looking really, it just reminds me of them...

So... um... you update the graphics to take advantage of the PSP's crisp, clean, wide screen... and you keep them looking exactly like smoothed out versions of the SNES sprites?

Well, at least the enemy had some detail in it...

Those screenshots look amazing compared to the other stuff I've seen, especially the artwork on that boss.

The only version of FF1 I ever got around to acquiring was Origins for the PlayStation. I'm far more jaded about all the FF4 remakes. I already have Chronicles and Advance, and now they're giving it the 3D treatment?

If 1 and 2 were on the same UMD, it would be a done deal.

Exactly! Why is it getting such a minor facelift for the PSP? I mean, if they're making all out 3D remakes on the DS, this doesn't exactly make this SNES+ version look very good. Also, HOW much different is this than the last "updates"?

Nah, I'm right with you Timsy. The remake for the GBA was fine enough for me, plus you got both FFI and FFII. This game is for people who:

A) only have a PSP and not a GBA or DS
B) want to spend twice as much on a game that has better graphics, but nothing much else.

While this game's graphics are an improvement over the GBA version, I don't think its enough to warrant a nearly 2x price increase. In the end, the gameplay is very similar to the original version, which is still a 20-year-old game. You can improve the graphics all you want, but until you change the gameplay, it's still 20 years old.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
