Who picked up an Elite 360?

Xbox 360 Premium trembles in fear of the Elite 360.

I'm curious and pretty busy at work, right now. So I thought I would ask you, the Gay Gamer public, did you pick up a big, slick, black Elite 360, yesterday? If not, how many of you are thinking about getting one? For those of you who are looking to make the upgrade, you may want to call Microsoft customer service or go to the site, first, about getting your free data transfer kit. Reports are coming in from all over the internets that the Elite 360 does not come with the data transfer cable as many had hoped, but MS did mention the Elite wouldn't come with that cable when it was announced way back in March. Still, some have been told by GameStop/EB employees who, on multiple occasions, had assured me that the cable would be included with the Elite 360s...take that as you will. At least the standalone 120gig drive does come with one as the only people who would presumably buy one are those who already own a Xbox 360 with a 20gig HDD.

So, who has one? Does anyone notice a significant improvement from component to HDMI in 1080i/p? Anything goofy or wondrous? Advice for would be purchasers/upgraders? Do you give a damn? Tell me! I've been thinking about snagging one, myself.

I'll settle for buying one of the swank black controllers and a case mod for my regular 360, and later on I can buy the 120 gig HD separately (and that DOES include the data transfer kit).
HDMI isn' that big a deal for me, my 360 is running through a VGA box and it already looks better than anything I've ever seen before.

I picked one up on Sunday. It's a sexy beast, and isn't that what really matters to a gay gamer?

I really want one, but I don't have the funds right now.

I picked one up with Viva Pinata and a boat load of Live Arcade stuff. I didn't have a 360 before so everything is fun and new. The hard drive allows me to play a ton of demos, so I don't see buying a retail game for a while. Anyone up for a game of Assault Heroes? :)

No thanks, ill pass. Maybe ill pick up an xbox720?

Spaz said:

nnnnnope. until it gets quieter, more attractive, or adds built in HD-DVD playback, or wireless, i'll keep my current 360.

I'm also waiting for the "cooler, quieter" upgrades before I join the 360 club, sexy black or otherwise.

I did! But I don't have a HD screen yet, however i tried at my friend's place on his Hd widescreen and man does it look good! There's just something about being black that attracts me you know. Oh and i also had a demo for Tomb raider, Kameo and burnout plus trailers for viva pinata. Did anyone else received the same feature on theirs?
Well meanwhile, i think i'll go download that tenacious d movie that i always wanted to see.

I got one, but haven't opened it up yet. They have a rediculous way of allowing you to re-download your live games so you can play them offline, but I have neither the interest or the energy to deal with thier bs right now. Maybe in a couple weeks after graduation...

All I can offer is to say that I've got my 360 running in 1080p via VGA without a hitch, looking great, and my PS3 running in 1080p via HDMI looking arguably crisper, but the HDMI is a pain in the ass.

With other combinations of equipment, HDMI may run flawlessly, but I've experienced "quirks" (needing to have the HDMI cable unplugged and replugged before a picture shows up, for instance) with both the PS3 *and* other equipment, like my Time Warner HD DVR. My PS3 consistently displays the far-right column of pixels on the far-left side of the screen, making it look like my PS3 is just one line of pixels off-center. It's only occasionally annoying, but it makes me cautious about leaping to more HDMI connections.

So if you upgrade, make sure you can return your system if the HDMI should prove wonky with your setup - and for the love of Jingo, play with it a while before you do the non-reversible one-way-only erase-your-original-HDD data transfer cable mojo!

Also, what Spaz said. No built-in wireless and a still-unsupported next-gen high-capacity optical format = not really an upgrade.

Whats that you say? I can't hear any of you, my first gen 360 is on!

I am saving for one, as I don't have a 360 yet.

I wish they would release the cooler, quieter one though.

Umm ok this first sentence is flawed in so many ways.First off I can understand your embarasment believing that any gamestop employee will tell you anything accurate but to admit that you asked "on multiple occasions" and still expected anything other than complete misinformation is just....well....silly.

"you may want to call Microsoft customer service or go to the site, first, about getting your free data transfer kit. Reports are coming in from all over the internets that the Elite 360 does not come with the data transfer cable as many had hoped"

Umm ok you are on the staff of a video game site and you are telling people they may want to call customer support to find out information that has been out for at least a month.

The one that really makes me laugh is "reports are coming from all over the internet.../as many had hoped"who are these many that you speak of kind sir and where are they reporting this general knowledge?Anyone that can read and has any intrest in their few hundrad dollar purchace should have known this from the get go.
I am sure I will get the ol oh you are just a fan boy responses but come on your post is on par with the downright painfull weekend posts of the profusely narcissistic lazy panda and I know you are better than this timsy.

Shean666, there's no reason to get snippy. not to mention that having worked customer service, most of the people out there buying big expensive stuff like this have no clue what they're doing. I guaruntee you people are going out looking for a "Wiistation 360 Elite" for little Billy at this very moment.

America is a nation of consumers; the entire economy based on buying more and more shit. I've never heard of another country with a "Keeping up with the Jones-es" catchphrase. people buy iPods not realizing that they need a computer to transfer music. ("where does the CD go?") or even better, that the Windows 95 Dell box they've had for a over a decade and turned on 3 times is out of date; therefore rendering it useless with their shiny new MP3 player.

as idyllic as it might be, you cannot expect the masses to do any research into their purchases. Gamestop is a horrible place for reliable information, yet people keep crawling back to their store for more. obviously, people haven't picked up that the business model sucks and that is why GS is still in business. how about you back the anger train up a bit?

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
