George Lucas in Race Car Crash, Humbled But Unhurt

Listening to The Howard Stern Show, I've heard their news lady Robin Quivers talking about this Toyota Pro-Celebrity Race she's signed up to do in Long Beach, CA. Celebrity participants included Lucas, actors Kelly Hu (X-Men 2), Emily Procter (CSI Miami) and Joshua Morrow (The Young and the Restless) as well as tennis legend Martina Navratilova, former NBA player John Salley and pro-BMXer Dave Mirra. Apparently, non-celebrity high-bidders also participated.

Well, the race finally happened yesterday, and then I heard an update on Sirius: George Lucas was in a "nasty-looking crash" which caused him and another driver to be taken away in an ambulance. However, no one suffered serious injuries.

With Lucas in the middle of the pack and on the eighth lap, he was desperate to make a move. He hit Dean, a Naples mother of four who paid $50,000 in an auction to race, then careened backwards into a wall of tires. Dean skidded into his car, head on. Many of the celebrities expressed disappointment, and disguised anger, at Lucas for trying the silly move and ending the race early.

Mirra won the race with Navratilova in 2nd place. Proctor finished 8th and Quivers finished 14th out of 18, although a few drivers, including Lucas, were knocked out entirely. Meanwhile, Lucas blamed the car: "I was caught up in the moment. I thought when I slammed on the brakes that I would be able to handle it, but the car couldn't." (I wonder who he blames for Episodes I, II and III...)

Episode III was well done. Anakin was smoldering.

Episode III was only well done if you ignore the script completely.

I'm still wondering when I'm getting the real versions of the original trilogy in nice anamorphic transfers. I refuse to ever watch the Special Editions again, they're a travesty.

Shin G -- Word. The special editions are terrible and I sold mine as soon as the original theatrical release DVDs came out last September. I am a HUGE Star Wars fan and III pretty much broke my heart. :(

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
