Final Fantasy I, PSP Style

I've been waiting for this--more footage for the upcoming Final Fantasy remake on the PSP. Just a quick look at this video shows just how much they've revamped the old school RPG.

Overworld maps look somewhat similar to the level of Final Fantasy VI, but because it's the PSP, everything has a nice, clean look. Battles are particularly well done. When a random enemy attack starts, the segue animation is not jagged pixellating as in almost every older FF. The menu to character action sequencing looks smooth and satisfying, which is a far cry from the lag heavy GBA and DS Final Fantasy remakes of recent times. It's also clear that they've completely redone the localization and story elements of the game, which is a huge boost. You can't go wrong with making the story of an RPG more immersive.

I don't know about you, but this looks like an extremely pleasant way to enjoy one's PSP. Since the trailer is in English, perhaps we won't have to wait too long for it. Until then, get your crystal gathering, Chaos busting, four class choosing, mythril equipping, menu fighting chops in order.

You can actually import the title. It features full English support.

While the graphics look cleaner and the music is a little better (esp in the battle sequence) than the GBA version, I still think this is a bit of a rip. On the DS, you get basically get 2 games that are 90 - 95% of the quality of these games together for $30 new ($10 if you're like me and scored it off of eBay). With the PSP versions, you have to pay $60 for both games.

Honestly, you could probably buy a used GBA and a used copy of FF1+2 for the price of getting both games for the PSP.

Ok, come on. How many times is Square going to re-release FF1 and FF2? There was the NES two-pack in Japan, Wonderswan, PS, GBA, and now PSP? Did I miss any?

Why is it that they focus so much time in porting games across consoles instead of making good games anymore? The last three Mana games were subpar, Chrono Cross was disappointing with all of their fans waiting for another (it's been like 5 years!) and the SINGLE most wanted remake they won't even do (FF7)!

I'm glad some people are enthused, but at this point I'm just annoyed.

I'm all for keeping in touch with the roots, but... come on! Could you at least give us another frame in sprite animation? PLEASE? Yeah, there's a fancy little flash before battles and stuff, but...

*sigh*

If they remake FF7, I really hope they keep it somewhat chibified so we don't kill ourselves from seriousness. You know, make them look like Itadaki Street characters.

NO, they should remake 7, leave it alone, it's done people.

Anywho, i dont see what's the fuss is all about, it looks no different from the last 100 FF1-2 remakes, looks and feels just as boring and out dated as when i played it on PS1 and GBA. I'll wait for the FFT remake anyday.

the game looks nice and all, until there is movement. god, why can't the PSP's screen make 2-D look smooth instead of having "fluttery" pixels when things move?

Sorry, I'm too wrapped up in gleeful nostalgia from watching that to bitch and moan.

Man, I played the hell out of that game back then.

That battle music sounds AWFUL... The MIDI sounds really generic, like out of Barney or The Big Comfy Couch or some sort of PBS kids show.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
