8-Bit Tie April Fool's Prank Goes Legit

8bit_tie2.jpg

What becomes a gay gamer most? Gaming fashion, of course. And now it looks like there's a bit more of that in the world...or there will be, once the braniacs who invented it make it so.

The trendy pranksters at ThinkGeek are facing the consequences of a joke too well-played. Seems like they proffered this sexy, totally rad 8-bit necktie as an April Fool's joke, and their sales pitch was so solid (and the idea so sound), that the ensuing public demand is forcing them to create the damn thing:

An 8-Bit tie - what an awesome way for the drones of Cubeland to show their independence from Corporate America! So, we did what we knew you'd want - we had the ties made. 100% silk, clip on** (for easy dressing), and custom designed by us for you. You'll be the envy of the office or, at least, you'll get tons of attention. You'll be just like Mario when he wore a tie to meetings when negotiating his contact with Nintendo. Sure the Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 are out there with all their super technology, but sometimes it's nice to remember the beginnings of the video game revolution. Viva la 8-Bit!

Viva la irony. The page on ThinkGeek now includes a disclaimer to all tie fanboys that while the prank was not intended to begin a merchandise campaign, the tie is now being rushed to production. Sign up to be notified when it becomes available...the listed price is a mere $19.99.

And it's a clip-on.
