Kingdom Hearts Remakes, For God And Country

There are many times in a gamer's life where one must ask oneself, "Why don't I live in Japan?!" Especially if you aren't a huge fan of the kind of games that the western world seems intent on making: games with guns and balls. Literally every game released by a European or American game company is either a FPS or a sports game. Our game designers are clearly suffering from manhood complexes. I know that there are tons of you out there who only play those games, so don't take this as an attack--those games have their merits. And there are always those quirky companies that come out with innovative puzzle/simulator games that break the mold. But they are few and far between.
So for those like me, who likes RPGs mostly (and by RPG I don't mean one of those games that are essentially FPSers in medieval times with a bit of stats customization, /cough Oblivion /cough), we're pretty much strangers in our own land. Daily we discover games that will take months, if not years, to reach our shores, and even then they sometimes don't make it. Or our beloved games get luxurious remakes that we have no hope of seeing. Not to mention all the merchandise and gaming paraphernalia that must be purchased on EBay for disgusting sums if we are ever to hold in our bewildered, shaking hands.
So this is as much torture for me as it is for you. RPGamer has compiled a collection of screenshots from Famitsu showcasing the unclear improvements of Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix and the sexy PS2 remake of KH: Chain of Memories. Considering the success of the Kindgom Hearts series stateside (I lay my money on the CoM remake being the more likely of the two) and the slight improvement in recent years of developers taking risks with releases, there might be a shining sliver of hope for us, let's call it the light within that never goes out!

Now this, this is an oasis amidst an unceasing desert. Thank you Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, I thank you. (More Axel screen-time, YAY!)
I want a wall-paper sized version of that picture...
Huh? By definition, Oblivion is more of an RPG than Kingdom Hearts is. Not to say that they both aren't great games, but Oblivion plays nothing like a shooting game, except that it has a similar interface. Having said that, and so as to avoid being completely off-topic, I really hope that this finds it's way over here at some point.
What a gay picture that is! Five friends laying around a heart, playfully but gently caressing each other...
XP
Maybe the picture was taken in the GG Castle greens. I can only hope for this game to reach our shores, specially the Chain of memories remake.
I'd just like to say that I'm a designer working in for a western games developer, and I'd like to stick up for my fellows! The reason western companies only release ballsy manhood simulators is nothing to do with "manhood complexes" - it's because publishers are in control of the money and only pay developers to make games they think will sell. And so when the (western) public only ever buys ballsy manhood games in enough bulk to justify the cost of making them, publishers only pay developers to make ballsy manhood games.
In Japan the market is a million times bigger, and they all buy opoona/Katamari/Rez games, so that publishers over there can justify the cost of making and distributing them there.
As such, since people will put money into crazy ideas over there it LOOKS like japan is full of imaginative people while the rest of the world is full of idiots who can only churn out the same-old-same-old, when infact EVERYWHERE is full of imaginative people - it's just that they keep buying Gears of War.
It bugs me somewhat that people think it's designers lacking imagination that's caused western output to stagnate, so I thought I'd stick up for us.
for the record Ptheo, i completely understand the difference in markets as well as the pressures of publishers. was just poking a little fun due to my frustration at the system. :)
no hard feelings?
people are always sticking up for oblivion by telling me it is a "true" rpg.
i still don't like it.
I'd LOVE the CoM remake/facelift to make its way over here...but I wonder how the card system would translate onto the PS2. I feel like it might get frustrating having to reshuffle your deck in the middle of beating up those cute little Shadows.
Love Western RPG's. Will always love Western RPG's.
Please let them release this KH remake in its entirety for our Western market. If they can get away with Halo 3 Legendary then why not KH?
You know, I bet the euro/american companies think only shooters and sports games sell because they haven't tried to sell anything else. :P
Anyways, I'd love to see these make it here but I doubt it. I don't think we're going to be seeing too many more releases for the PS2.. I could be wrong of course, but it seems like by the time these come out it'll be too late over here. They tend to phase stuff out over here waay too fast, while in Japan things survive for way longer (ex: The Dreamcast). D:
As for the Oblivion is more of an RPG thing.. I guess it depends on what type of RPG you're talking about. If you want one that is closer to actual tabletop rpgs (dungeons and dragons), than yeah, Oblivion is closer.. but if you're talking about J-RPGs it's a different story.
Also, I hated Oblivion too. It runs like crap even on my stellar machine and it's really boring (except for the assassin's guild stuff). XD
Lol, no hard feelings. I just wanted to point out that no one I worked with on "SpongeBob Squarepants : Creature from the Krusty Krab" was more than usually macho.
Although, weirdly, we are more macho than the team downstairs who made "reservoire dogs: the game" and that had guns and swearing in!!!
