Black Elite Xbox 360 Available Soon

Elite360.jpg

It is official, the back Elite Xbox 360 has been confirmed. The new machines roll out on April 29, 2007, and will be priced at $479.99. The Elite console will retain all of the same parts as the Premium 360 with a few whopping improvements. Now the Elite will have a 120GB hard drive, an HDMI port in the rear, and comes in the very slimming black case.

Albert Penello, director of Microsoft’s global marketing explains the value of the new system:

And for a unit that's got twice the hard drive storage space as the PS3, comes with an HDMI cable, an Ethernet cable and a headset, it's still $120 cheaper than the $599.99 high-end PlayStation 3

The true value of the system comes in the comparison of the older Premium model priced at $399.99. For eighty dollars more you get 100 more gigs of storage space, coupled with the high video data transfer of the HDMI cable, and you have a bangin’ value on a next-gen system.

If they had fixed the annoyingly loud volume at which the unit runs, added HD-DVD playback (which still costs an additional $200) or changed the form factor, I might be tempted.

As it stands I don't know if I'd call this model "a bangin' value". Considering they're charging nearly $100 more for more HD space (which is cheap and which you don't really need) and for an HDMI port that should have been there in the first place, it seems like a bit of a rip to me.

They're not going to add HD-DVD playback. It would require an entire re-engineering of the drive to support the Xbox disc structure, add $200, and be a useless feature inside of 2 years (even Microsoft is acknowleging it now, talking about how it's quite possible for them to create a BluRay drive for the 360 when they would refuse to even discuss the idea before)

HDMI offers no additional benefit you can't already get with the 360, as you can also play 1080p content through the VGA cable

My DS and Wii came with Wifi standard. The PS3 has a end-high option with internal Wifi.

What's the deal MS?

I agree. This is too little and a tad little too late as well.

No WiFi? What is this, 1999?

HDMI is useless for just the DVD playback. HD downloads.. great! HDMI interface covers the copyright issues - and now MS expects people to shell out another 479$ to upgrade their equipment.

wo year old technology with a new HDMI output and a bigger hard drive...Wheres the 65mm chip? T

Oh wait.. NEXT hardware revision, I think.

This means:

I'm waiting. See ya next christmas
