80GB PS3 On The Way
Let the upgrade wars begin. Hot on the tail of Microsoft’s announcement of the Elite 360, Sony rebuts with a planned upgrade to the PS3. In a regulatory filing with the FCC, Sony submitted the updates to the PS3’s Bluetooth module, but also outlined their plans for an 80GB hard drive to be included with later models. The announcement was even listed on the cover letter of the file.
The model CECHE01 to be added by the difference of the capacity of hard disk.
Sony has made no comment yet about the new model, of course. I’m curious to see how they are going to restructure the models they have now with the 60GB and 20GB hard drives. It could go one of two ways, they either ditch the 60GB or the 20GB. I imagine they will ditch the 60GB so that there is some more difference between the models. It would be a little silly to have the 80GB and 60GB out with a $100 difference in price tags. Who would want to pay for the 80GB with such a small difference in storage space?

And who says that the price difference will be a full $100?
The PS3 uses standard 2.5" SATA drives so I'm not really sure why they are doing this in the first place when replacing the HDD with a larger one is an easy swap.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, that damn thing looks like a panini press and/or a high end George Forman grill.
Now, a bit of brains here, folks. Why upgrade an HDD by a mere 80GB? Makes no sense. Remember, the hardrive is easily replaceable by the end-user. And if Sony is to upgrade the HDD, I am betting it will use a far bigger one
Yeah, this new unit doesn't make much sense unless they are vastly improving the Bluetooth functionality.
Oh, I don't know. I can see Sony doing something as colossally stupid as releasing a new $700 PS3 model.
Shouldn't most news relased or leaked around this time of year be questioned what with April Fools this weekend?
