Angry Video Game Nerd Rips Ghostbusters A New One
I'm gonna come right out here and say this:
I'm not a huge fan of the Angry Video Game Nerd. Maybe he just reminds me of my friends in high school too much. Sometimes, when we weren't talking about something totally awesome like Final Fantasy VII or Neon Genesis Evangelion, I envisioned a happy life without them and sighed in expectation of graduation. But I digress...
My main beef with the Angry Video Game Nerd is that he tries too hard. Some of these things he points out are funny enough with a few extra f-bombs thrown in and a hard guzzle of some Rolling Rock to nail the point home. I just end up feeling a little awkward for him because it looks so forced. But that could be take 32 talking. Don't get me wrong, I'm no Miss Manners. I'm often laughing the hardest at some of his more creative spells of badmouthing. He just never looks that angry to me, and I've never equated cussing with anger. He just seems too patient, too mild-mannered.
He's not all bad. This, his latest video, is by far my favorite. This is something to be angry about. Ghostbusters is one of the worst games ever created, and it deserves everything he throws at it. This game single handedly taught me at a very young age to beware any and all games that had tie-ins with a movie. The last 30 seconds are priceless. If you're gonna get angry, that is the time. It would have been good for the rest of humanity to see that cartridge thrown into a "ghost vacuum", destroyed for all eternity.

My reaction to the "awful games" part: Whatever... BUT, how PATHETIC is this guy? Seriously...
That was like watching a car accident. I could not take my eyes away. That Ghostbusters game was the worst I've ever seen.
The problem with Angry Video Game Nerd is that he's really not all that funny. Most of his stuff is just spitting bile at games like some sort of Tourette's victim.
If he actually said witty and clever things, it'd be worth playing his videos, instead he just spouts out the crap we already know. I don't really need someone to vocalize my distaste for me.
Yeah, he does seem a little forced. His anger seems scripted. And he delivers them with the passion and energy I save for things like making a grocery list.
I was about 450% more angry while playing "God of War" and being forced to climb a rotating column of razor blades. Who the fuck comes up with something like that?
awesome =]
Actually, I fund this game a bunch of fun, fairly faithful to the franchise, though the building part was kinda annoying. But so is this little bitch...
I remember playing this on my old Commodore 64 and thinking that I was just hopeless at video games...no matter what I did, I never got any further than the three or four screens he showed in the video.
Now, after twenty years, I realize that I didn't suck - this damn game did! LOL!
I dont mind his videos, but the newer ones are feeling way too forced, and they arnt as funny.
"Drones over you and makes your brain go numb" game nerd already made my comment....so I don't need to!
Maybe the NES version sucked, but the C64 version, and ESPECIALLY the Master System version were really good and fun.
I LOLed... The ending was just... oh man xD That was perfect... I love those moments where he just sort of pauses in complete disbelief like when he landed a plane using the power glove xD
1. The Commodore 64 version was great.
2. Being angry at {Games, Republicans, Microsoft, iPod...} is pretty damn lame these days, even by geek standards. And video blogs... Zzz. Overly emotional opinions on issues that are so close to zero in relevancy they might as well not exist are like a-holes: they should be filled, and not heard.
I always despised the old Ghostbusters game, what a way to ruin a great franchise, I really hope that the game that Universal (or Zootfly) is working on will be great to make up for this crap.
The Angry Video Game Nerd is the most talented person on the internet. (except for porn stars) his comments are funny, his facial expressions are perfect. he does an awesome job of taking you back to the time whatever game or movie came out, just before he lays into it. as for forcing jokes: well, duh! that's the best part. when he screws up in a game and dies, would it be funnier if he said, "damn. i died again." or "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!"? i think it's pretty obvious. if you want an unforced review of a game or movie, read about it in a magazine. the rest of us humans with a pulse are gonna keep watching the AVGN.
I think a lot of people miss the point about AVGN, including the majority of people commenting here.
It's a satire. He's playing a character, and in fact is kind of mocking those who do get over-emotional about these games. In fact, he's a game collector who really loves these shitty games, and when you see him destory a cartridge, it's actually a clever trick. He's not really damaging that game.
If you go to James Rolfe's website (the guy who plays AVGN) you will find he actually has lots of projects. AVGN is just something he does.
