Use Orb Software To Stream Content From Your PC To Your Wii

orblogo_FA_150x139.jpg

Orb allows users to stream content from their PC to any internet browser, even the Opera browser on the Wii. Imagine sitting on your couch and watching all of those archived videos, music and photos off of your computer. It takes a few steps to get this puppy set up, but you will be thankful once you did.

~First, you need to install the Orb software onto your PC.

~Once installed, you need to set up an account with Orb Networks. It’s rather simple, create your username and password, then wait for the confirmation e-mail, reply to them and then you are set up.

~Then run the Orb software on your computer, and set your preferences. The program will stream from My Documents by default. To change the folder or add other folders, right click on the Orb icon in the notification area next to the clock and pick Configuration. Then click the Media tab and enter the paths for your separate media directories, and click OK

~Lastly you need to set up DirectStreaming so you will be streaming from your local network, and not the internet. Right-click the Orb icon again, this time select Configuration, and then the Advanced tab. Check the box that reads ‘Use UPnP for DirectStream’ and click OK.

The only thing that might need to take care of, is some video codecs for streaming, verify them here.

Now turn on your Wii, go to the Internet Channel, and browse to mycast.orb.com and login. Ta-Da! Your MyCast page will pop up, and grant you access to all of your audio, video, or photo content on your computer.

Orb is great, because from any device that can surf the internet, you can access your MyCast page and stream your media. Just one more thing to make your lifestyle more connected.

If you would like to see Orb in action, check out the video here.

If anyone has any success or failures with setting up Orb on your Wii, please submit them in the comments.

So, this will also work for the PS3 and the PSP correct?

Nice showing of Wii favoritism though. :3

It doesn't work on macs, though. *sigh*

mediacenterx looks promising, but it seems a bit limited for the time being. I'm looking forward to seeing what future versions will yield.

I'm trying to set it up, but when I got to the Advanced Tab in Orb, and check the "DirectStream" it tells me "that port is unreachable - check your firewall" well I've tried different ports and checked my firewall to no avail :( any suggestions?
