RUMOR: Microsoft Buying Capcom [UPDATE]
Rumors are, apparently, oozing out of various ‘insider’ sources that Microsoft has all but purchased Capcom. Keep in mind, this is only a rumor and it will continue to be until we hear otherwise…though neither company has come forward with anything, yet. Fitbabits, of Evil Avatar, has received this information from several independant sources.
If this were true, it would be a massive boost to Microsoft in Japan and would possibly mean an exclusive Resident Evil 5 for the Xbox 360. Let’s just see what happens! What are your thoughts?
[UPDATE]: The rumor has been squashed (again) by Capcom, itself. A Capcom rep told Gamespot, “It’s a 3-year-old rumor, most likely refueled by our recent spate of 360 titles.” I am actually a bit relieved, long live Capcom! For the full article, click here.

Who cares about Resident Evil 5 when Phoenix Wright is at stake!
I’m not sure I understand Microsoft’s contract the whole buying companies since Rare still makes Nintendo DS and Gameboy games even when they are making 360 titles. And Bungie was working on a Halo DS game. Capcom has has 20 years of work on all consoles, I can just imagine getting a Microsoft support for a title then 6 months later porting everything onto the PS2, DS and Neo Geo Pocket.

... i just really really dont want that to happen. the slight implication that there wouldnt be any capcom VC games or capcom wii games(brought about by my own troubled mind) is a HORRIBLE thing to have to imagine.
I’m scared by the fact that Microsoft is figuing out they could just buyout the good third party developers and thus hurt the other consoles. How long until it becomes a massive arms race of developers being bought out?

Times are a changing! Go with it. Microsoft is a software company so maybe they know a thing or two of what to do with software.
Sorry, I’m not buying it. Capcom makes too much money on other people’s hardware. There’s nothing for them to gain. Maybe they’ve worked out an exclusivity deal for a game/series, but a company buy out…reported by Evil Avatar…I don’t think so.
I agree with Game-Boi. They make way to much money for them to sell the company.

I sincerely doubt it, for the above reasons. Also, I don’t think that a company as Japanese as Capcom is, is going to be selling themselves over to a very American one.
This rumor is old and Capcom has denied it mulitple times.
It would really be horrendus decision of it were true. It would effectivly cut-off Capcom from any future success in Japan considering how poorly recieved the Xbox 360 has been there. Not to mention it would mean that many other console specific series (Ace Attorney, etc) would be cancelled which would be ridiculous.
I wouldn’t put too much faith in this rumor. It just doesn’t make any sense.
Now if only the whole “closing Clover” thing had been false. Wii Okami, where art thou…..
Heh, I was in a panic until I read the other replies. I was worried that I’d have to spend money on a 360 just for its apparent monopoly on zombie games.
