Mortal Kombat Controls On The Wii

Mortal Kombat hit the arcades with a bloody thump in 1992. Ever since the initial release, it has been synonymous with extreme violence and bloody excess in the gaming industry. MK has been down a long road, with many varied iterations, some high, some low. Last year they released Mortal Kombat: Armageddon on a high note, which attempted to wrap up the story line, and feature nearly all of the playable characters throughout the series.

Recently the creator of Mortal Kombat, Ed Boon, sat down with the folks from Gamespot for an interview to discuss the port of Armageddon to the Wii. In the interview, Boon discussed that the Wii will incorporate motion sensitive special moves, and fatalities. The Wii version will have an exclusive play mode called “Endurance mode” where players pick one character to play fight after fight without any health restoration to their health meter.

Using motion sensitive moves is a great idea and will give the Wii version of the game it’s own identity. While many may scoff at the idea of using motion sensing for their favorite characters, they will be pleased to find out that you can also use the Wii Classic Controller or the GameCube Controller. Each player can choose which of the three styles of gameplay they prefer.

Watching him play opens up new realms of possibilities for this franchise and fighting games in general. The swipes of the Wii remote used to execute Scorpion’s spear throw looks like the movement compliments the action beautifully.

when i first heard that MK will be on the wii, i got a little nervous. it's very much an arcade game. but after seeing this clip, im a little less worried. and, even if the movements dont work in the end, u can still use the GC controller. so im more than happy now.

This is AWESOME!!!
I've been a big fan of Mortal Kombat since MK 1. I'm so happy to see how far the game has come.

I was a bit concerned about the controls on the wii after I heard about SM Brawl Bros. You can only use the gamecube/classic control in that game. I was hoping that wouldn't be the case...

So I'm glad that we at least have a choice in Armageddon.

Hooray!

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
