Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Details

The GamePro gang recently had some “super-secret, invite-only” time with Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and came away with nothing but great things to say. Apparently the game showcases the Wii’s technical prowess (it’s there, somewhere) and also plays with the Wiimote better than any other game to date:
You don’t fire with your index finger, but with your thumb (using the A button). This sounds a little goofy, but in practice it worked very, very well. You could press the directional pad to fire rockets or enter your scanning mode, and the trigger (aka the B button) handled jumps very nicely. Samus has a few new moves that take advantage of the motion-sensitive controller. By locking onto a target and thrusting the left nunchuku forward, Samus could launch a grappling beam.
Since Twilight Princess, which I love but have found frustrating at times when the Wiimote mechanics intrude upon the game, I’ve had some concerns about how well the Wiimote will hold up to games that are, at the risk of being glib, less gimmicky than Wii Sports. Particularly, I worried that the new Metroid game might be less fun to play for hours on end without a standard gamepad in hand.
Wonderfully, GamePro puts those fears to rest:
Aiming with the point-and-shoot controller felt very nice, though it took a few minutes to become truly comfortable. The experience was much like playing a PC first-person shooter, especially since the nunchucku analog stick controlled movement We found that standing roughly four feet from the TV provided the best motion, and the cursor stayed smooth and steady—no shakiness! The frame rate was also smooth and consistent, even when the screen got crowded with special effects.
Metroid was probably the best Wii game on display. Wii can’t wait to play more!
Now I’m relieved, and can’t wait to find out about a release date. Please come before next Christmas…

“I have found [TP:Wii] frustrating at times when the Wiimote mechanics intrude upon the game”
Which times/elements? I’ve played through the whole game without control issues or the remote intruding. Just curious…
MP3:C was a great looking demo e3. I can only imagine it’s gotten better since then. :) Can’t wait!
i think the A button works well when you shoot because samus doesn’t hold a gun. it’s like her entire arm that she shoots with. if you hit the trigger then it just wouldn’t make sense with what’s going on on screen
anywho, im very excited for this game, main reason why i plan on getting a wii :)
I couldnt be more excited for this game.
The biggest draw for me is the addition of a bigger story that they hinted at in talks and trailers. Add in online play and this will be the best Metroid Prime game by far.
Game-Boi: I’m being totally lazy here. I love the Wiimote gameplay to death, but sometimes, usually after hour 3, I start to think the option to plug in my Wavebird would be a really great thing.
Plus, sometimes one’s wrists are already tuckered out from…from the gym.
