GameStop Earns Almost $2 Billion During Xmas Season

Now that the Christmas shopping season is over, retailers are counting up their change and releasing press releases while they gloat over some schnapps-laced eggnog. GameStop, the retail chain which has managed to pretty much pop up in every mall and take over the Electronics Boutique line of stores, has released a final tally. Does anyone even want to take a guess as to how much they took in?
US retailer GameStop has reported sales of US $1.7 billion for the nine-weeks of Christmas, ending December 30th, 2006.
The results are a 29 per cent increase over the previous year, with the retailer hailing the season as one of the most successful ever.
...
The retailer also revealed that Gears of War, Final Fantasy XII, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Guitar Hero 2 and WWE Smackdown Vs. RAW were the strongest performing software titles over the period.
I can’t say I’m all that surprised by the rather staggering number in the press release. Hell, this season saw me spend the most money I’ve ever shelled out on games in any reasonable amount of time… too bad for GameStop I made most of my purchases on eBay.

Woot! We win.
I think Gamestop and EB Games are the same company.
They are. The two companies merged last year.
Gamestop sucks. They could care less about the consumer and generally offer little help when you’re in their stores. They just bought out the competition so of course they’re on top. FOR NOW! Their forced bundles suck, their return policy sucks. I bought a new Wii game that they had already opened to “put on the shelves as a display copy”...they shrink wrapped it for me…of course when I try to return it still shrink wrapped they claim it’s been opened and I can’t return it. That was my last trip there. It’s all online buying from now on. Stay clear!
