G4 Debuts Gaming Comedy This Spring

This spring G4 will premiere their new animated gaming comedy Code Monkeys, about a group of fledgling game designers in the ‘80’s in the style of an old school video game. Variety reports that the show is being written by Adam de la Pena of I’m With Busy fame. G4 has announced an order for a season of 14 episodes.
Code Monkeys will “literally look like a videogame,” said de la Pena, who is utilizing an art style that makes the cartoon look like an early-generation Super Nintendo or Commodore 64 game. De la Pena said that the show will take place in a surreal world with various allusions to an abundance of 80’s video games, and cultural references such as having Ronald Reagan as a recurring character.
Hopefully Code Monkeys will help out G4’s rather lackluster lineup of programming. Airing the highly under-appreciated show Arrested Development was a great start. They recently announced that this past year has been their fastest growing year so far. They may have a hit on their hands with this show and find other creative avenues to round out their channel. Here’s an idea, how about bringing back Arrested Development for another season? What an exclusive that would be.
