World Of Warcraft Patch Of Doom
World of Warcraft addicts and I-can-stop-anytime-I-want-to’ers everywhere have been trembling in fear at the thought of the impending cataclysm awaiting them on December 5th, 2006, when Blizzard rolls out WoW patch 2.0.1, which will render many or most add-ons useless, for a time.
For the uninitiated, add-ons like Cosmos UI help WoW players in many little ways that the game itself does not, such as providing standardized map coordinates, displaying the target of your enemy (so you know which mage the Furbolg you’re tanking is about to become the creamy center of a Furbolg pile-on) and all kinds of helpful little tricks that make the game more fun to play without intruding overmuch on Blizzard’s beautiful work.
The patch doesn’t disable add-ons simply because it’s a big meanie; there’s something technical involving an update to the LUA, which means Little Ugly Asshat for all I know. Add-ons will have to be updated for compatibility with the new patch, a process that can drag on for a frustratingly long time for those of us who just want the cooldown timers on our spell and ability hotkeys back, or what-have-you. WoWInterface has a list of add-ons already confirmed to work with the upcoming patch, and as any good *WoW*er knows, Curse Gaming is always the place to go for helpful files and add-ons, although you should expect it to be sluggish beyond belief – if it’s up and running that day at all. With the kind of traffic WoW brings, that’s no sure bet.

As a former WoW player (I’m using my game name and as soon as I get a new computer I’ll be back!!) I remembered the forum posting when the delay of the expansion was announced (I tried to find it to quote exactly) ... a player posted to effect: Let’s get the yelling over with a standart post “yelling, swearing, quitting, Blizzard is going to fold, people are leaving by the 1.000’s, “can I have your stuff,etc.” The delightful response from a moderator went something like this: “General concern, calming words, continued assurances and hugs all around.”
As I read the article, I can just imagine what the boards will be like when the full impact of the patch hits!!!!
BTW—I love GayGamer, and visit several times a day—Even as an … ahem … older person, it’s a fun, wacky and great place….

Blah Blah Blah, all I know is that I’m getting my Felguard and I’m going to use it to rain down doom upon the heads of my doomed enemies.
I am having quite a joyful right now. This new patch is …what should I say… groundbreaking? It’s a massive quake to the WoW community. I installed the patch at the morning of December 5th, and I read the entire patch notes; Much interesting and much being reasons of concern.
As a Druid, I looked forward to 3 more talent points to spend; due to the “Improved Moonfire” talent being cut from 5 ranks to 2 ranks, but with the effects of 5% per rank, versus the previous 2%. But there’s just one thing… There are still 5 ranks, and nothing about “Improved Moonfire” is changed. I wrote in the WoW Forums about it, but (ha-ha) it’s hard to enter the Forums because of all the traffic. Anyways, I reckon they will have to reset all the players’ talent points AGAIN to correct this “glitch”.
Coming down to addons – they were the first I actually noticed anything about when I entered the game via Ragnaros (before it shut down after a few minutes, of course). I actually just now found gaygamer.net via google.com while searching for addons compatible with the new patch. And so far Curse-Gaming and WoWinterface.com are suffering heavy traffic; WoWinterface is actually DOWN at this very moment.
However, the community will get through this (one day…). So I’m just wishing the entire WoW-websites a very darn good luck. And to you other players out there: Be Patient!.
