Gurumin's Questionable "Drill Action RPG" Holiday Fun
The soon to be released Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure, for PSP, raises some questions. For instance, what would Freud have to say about a little girl wielding a giant spinning screw? Oh, and she’s attacking a giant, purple, bejewelled fish deep beneath the earth. What say you, father of psychoanalysis?
Either as an easter egg or just something she can do, the plucky main character is shown here jumping around, taking relationship advice, and causing general havoc in a cute little Santa get-up while constantly repeating, “Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas” in what can only be described as “festively disturbing.”
About halfway through the gameplay video, I can’t help wondering… is the game sending a timely political message about gay marriage through the example of “Ray” and “Shane?” “Tomorrow will be warm and sunny.” Ho ho ho, indeed, Gurumin. Ho ho ho, indeed.

It doesn’t release until February 2007. Rather than try to make sense of the ramblings above (does Freudian silliness really make sense in the context of Japanese culture?), I suggest, dear reader, that you visit GameSpot.com and see the rational preview they’ve posted and non-holiday themed video clip which actually seems to do the game justice. In my opinion, Gurumin looks like a really cute, fun RPG for the PSP. Wacky characters, lots of outfits, minigames, and purportedly cool tunes. What’s not to love?
so harsh! so i got the release date wrong. BUT it’s not meant to be a review, nor did i say anywhere that it looked to not be fun. and the “freudian silliness” is just that: silliness. cool tunes? did you hear the music?
Sorry for the harshness. I was in a bad mood, worrying about a friend in the hospital. I know you were tyring to be silly, but for some reason all I could think was: where’s the information? As for the music, I did say “purportedly cool” (and said Gamespot had a “pre-view”).
sorry about your friend.
yeah, there is very little information, but the whole point was the funny/weird santa suit thing.
That… has got to be one of the WEIRDEST things I have seen in a while. And yet… it makes me… strangely… happy.
