Four More Virtual Console Games Released Today!

Following last week’s awesome Virtual Console additions come this week’s rather lukewarm titles, with one possible exception. Ice Hockey, Gunstar Heroes, Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine and Alien Crush will all be available for purchase today after 11am.

Gunstar Heroes is definitely the stand-out in this bunch of otherwise mediocre games. I suppose Reggie did warn us that one week’s low end titles would be tempered by another week of great ones. So here’s hoping we get some more really kick ass titles next week. Cheers!

gunstar heroes and alien crush sound like rather kick ass titles to me, actually…

Gunstar Heroes is not lukewarm, that is THE kick-ass virtual console game so far. Mean Bean Machine would be in the same category, but it’s already available in so many Sonic collections on every system that it’s not really worth the download.

anyone who duesn’t know alien crush yet: give it a chance, it’s one of the best pinball games ever – and if you like it, look forward for the just as excellent devil crush to be hopefully released on vc soon, too.

too bad we don’t get alien crush on vc in europe yet. would definitely spend these 600 wii-points…

Gunstar Heroes and Alien Crush LUKEWARM?!?

Fruit Brute, you’re so totally off my Christmas list.

Gunstar Heroes and Ice Hockey are classic!! You can bet on me getting both.

tee-hee, you guys are so easy to rile. I guess I should have put a big SARCASM label on it.

I only hope that Nintendo and third parties keep up the pace. This week’s got some great games, especially for people like me that never own a TG-16 back in the day.

Fruit Brute, you forgot the [/damagecontrol] tag ;)

I’ve heard good things about Gunstar Heroes, so I’ll probably eventually get it. However, I’m really confused why it should take so long to emulate games on the Wii. If necessary, Nintendo should be outsourcing their emulation projects—especially since it appears they aren’t interested in enhancing their VC games at all.

Also, I personally won’t be buying any VC games for a while. I’m trying to wait until they give us more rights with the downloads, as right now, we are only licensed the game—not sold. In addition, I don’t have the ability to play any of the VC games on any other Wii than the one it was bought on, and that really stinks. While the VC has some apparently great games on it so far, they’re going to have to work harder before they get my money.

I’ve spent many a year of my childhood playing Gunstar.. You just cannot get bored of this game, everytime I pick it up it still remains just as fun as it was when I played it back on my old Genesis (RIP). This is definitely the one to have.

I kind of love Mean Bean Machine. And Gunstar Heroes is effing redonk. Loves it! I never played Alien Crush.

For al really great pinball game I am still waiting for Psycho Pinball, though the Genesis version was obviously below par in the audiovisual department.

Gunstar Heroes is one of the best games ever made.

For the reason why it takes so long to publish a handful of old roms, refer to my comment on the last bunch of VC games – it’s just a business concept.

When are we going to get some Super Mario 1, 2, 3, World, Yoshi’s Island, and Sonic 2, 3, and Knuckles action? Those are what I’m waiting for. I know I can emulate them, but I want to play them on my Wii with wireless controllers. They also need to add save states, it wouldn’t be hard to do. I’m damn sick of having to start Sonic the Hedgehog from the beginning all the time (yes, I know the level select code, but thats not the same).

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES! This is what we need more of! Where are my TMNT NES games???

I’d actually like to play the Super Mario games in their slightly enhanced GBA versions. I was having a great time playing SMB2 Advance (or maybe it was 3, but it was the turnip-throwing one at any rate) but my niece wanted to trade it for Mario Kart, which she hated. Kind of a win-win, but I really liked the giant turnips and stuff from the GBA version that I gather weren’t in the original.

I’ll still buy SMB2 when it comes out on the VC, though I’d prefer they put out Mario All-Stars so I can pay a couple bucks extra for four times as many games with better graphics, but I really hope they start putting GBC/GBA games out there too.

Speaking of which…. Donkey Kong ‘94 in its full Super Game Boy glory. They just gotta.

Ice Hockey is such a great 2-player game. So simple, yet so fun just to try and kick the other player’s ass in a game of Hockey.
