BioShock Site Creaks Open With Spooky Style, New Media

I’ve been goo-goo for BioShock since I heard of its impending existence – any game that merits the title of “spiritual successor to System Shock 2” automatically gets my vote, and the pics and vids that have come bubbling up from the undersea labs at Irrational Games have only stoked my BioShock flame. The ruined glamor of the late 1950s has worked on everything from Fallout to Ghost Ship, and BioShock has clearly committed itself to a rich latter-day Art Deco/noir feel…that manages to be creepy as hell. The whole “underwater city” thing doesn’t hurt, either – just check out the new trailer that Super Timsy slapped up the other day.

Now BioShock has its own official website that’s just as committed to the style and feel of the game as anything else I’ve seen. There’s plenty of moody fun to be had poking through its bowels, scout’s honor. Look to be shocked out of your biology when the game goes gold sometime this spring.

Astounding, gorgeous, art-decco, big daddies, it’s all too much for me to take. /faint It’s like the Fountainhead meets System Shock 2. I’m terrified and intrigued.

Damn sexy.

I had read The Fountainhead years back (given to me by my boyfriend back then, he was an Ayn Rand fanboy). It’ll be eerie to play this title when it comes out – Objectivism on acid, unleashed (as if Rand herself weren’t enough, LOL!).

Just watched the trailer linked above. Hmmm, instead of saying:

“In the city science was unstoppable, until one day, science couldn’t be stopped”

...wouldn’t it have been more apt to say:

“In this city science pulled out all the stops, until one day, science became unstoppable” ?

:-\
