Xbox Live Video Marketplace...Live!
Roll over and waddle to your Xbox 360, gamers, it’s TV time! (Unless, that is, you were smart enough to purge your stuffing last night; a moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips!) The Xbox Live Video Marketplace is open, y’all…and anybody who wants to drop $2 for 11 minutes of Harvey Birdman is welcome and able.
The pricing has been shuffled around again, and now runs as follows:
For new film rentals, 480 MS Points for 720p HD files ($6) or 320 MS Points for regular ol’ 480p SD movies ($4); for “Classic” movies the prices drop to 360 MS Points ($4.50) and 240 MS Points ($3), respectively. At the moment there are 48 movies available for rental, but they’ll only last for 24 hours after you start watching.
TV shows are another story. You get to keep them, for starters, and they cost less as well – although the cost is the same regardless of the length of the program, putting less than a dozen minutes of Moral Orel at the same cost as a full episode of, say, CSI. The cost? 240 MS Points ($3) for high-def, 160 MS Points ($2) for standard-definition.
Whether or not the pricing makes you wince or is completely immaterial seems to be a matter of taste, although the opportunity to see recent movies in at least some kind of high-definition without another hardware purchase has me excited, at least. I can’t wait to get back home and try it out…family time, fie on you!
