Wii & PS3 = Golden Ticket

I must confess, although I am excited to get my hands on the Wii, and I will be there at midnight on Saturday to pick mine up, I’m starting to get sick of hearing about it. And not just the Wii but the PS3 as well.
My boyfriend and I were talking about it this morning and he made a great comparison. He said the whole thing surrounding these launches reminded him of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. All those people scrambling to get their hands on a limited number of Golden Tickets. The greatest prize anyone could imagine.
I realized he was right, of course. Look at all the ugliness these launches (particularly the PS3) has brought out in people The greed, the freaking out, the line waiting, the console scalping. Just yesterday a news reporter and people waiting in a PS3 line were shot with BB guns. It shows a kind of desperation in people that’s a little frightening. Yes, these consoles are going to be great. Yes, we will have a lot of fun with them, but is it really worth all this madness?

Now, whenever I see a line of people waiting in tents for a week to buy a PS3, all I can see is a big line of Veruca Salts. Only difference is, Veruca would keep her PS3 and not try and sell it for triple the price on eBay.

If you really want to be disgusted, check out how much these things are going for on eBay.
I really hope that Nintendo’s launch numbers are accurate and we end up being able to stroll into Toys’R’Us on Sunday afternoon and see a dozen Wiis still available for purchase.
Of course, I can’t take that chance, and my partner and I will be in line at Wal-mart this Saturday night, health permitting. And if not, then it’s up at 8 to see if there are any left at Wal-Mart, then over to chez Target, then TRU, and maybe we’ll even hit Kay-Bee if we’re totally out of luck. We have a lot of options before ebay, with the only hitch being that we need two (one for us, one as a present.) Can’t really say that for PS3 buyers.
Everyone will be able to find one, but you tell that to the wrong person and they laugh, because they honest to god believe that you can find them because no one wants to buy one. Ignorance will be funny, but right now its annoying as hell.
I did go on myspace and I saw that some PS3s are selling for over $2K. That’s just madness.
Errr, I mean, ebay. Haha, sorry for the mixup!
