Sony Still Not Playing Nice With Microsoft

Oh, please, like any of you are surprised by that little nugget? Now that the PS3 has been released to a number of media outlets, the indubitable members of the press are doing their best to poke and prod the damn things as much as they can.
The guys over at Gizmodo have tested out the console’s ability to recognize various MP3 players and have come across a shocking revelation: the PS3 won’t recognize Microsoft’s new Zune (you know… the supposed “iPod killer” they’ve been bragging about for a while) at all.
The iPod, on the other hand, sort of works: the PS3 recognizes it as a portable hard drive, but you have to go through the numbered files (no convenient artist, album, or track listing to help you out) in order to select a track.
Let’s hope Sony takes a hint and decides to patch at least one of those issues.
The Playstation 3 Doesn’t Like Zunes
The Playstation 3 Likes iPods. Kinda.

What is this newfangled “Bee Dee Rom”?
Well, this is what firmware updates are for. :3
This is how Sony kinda lost me as a customer a few years back. For instance, I won’t consider their mp3 players cos they’re too wrapped up in their own (constantly changing) formats. At least that’s my impression. It’s up to them to win me back now. Bit sad.
And Apple isn’t wrapped up in their own formats?
Or Microsoft? Who supports playforsure, then WMA-drmed crap, and now whatever proprietary format the Zune uses?
BD-ROM = BluRay Disc.
As for the Zune, I predict iPod crushing it in less than a year.
As long as it plays MP3s well and it’s buttons are fine, does it really matter WTF MP3 player brand you use? I had a POS Zen Micro for awhile, before I had enough and switched to my Samsung. The Samsung may have less memory, but my Samsung doesn’t give me the desire to chuck it into oncomming traffic, like the Micro did…....often.
Sony: “Hey, Apple, we know you’ve been absolutely crushing us in the portable music division. No hard feelings, so we’ll support you on the PS3. What? Microsoft, you say you have a portable device as well to compete with us? Sure! Hop Aboard the PS3!”
this sort of thing is just going to get uglier as the next gen race continues.
As easy as it is to bash Sony nowadays, I gotta give them this one. On the surface, it looks bad for Sony that you plug in a Zune and it’s not detected.
On the other hand, almost EVERY OTHER MP3 PLAYER in existence is a USB mass storage device, meaning it’s standard and can be used without a special driver…. but not the Zune. Last I heard, you can’t use the Zune with Macs or Linux either…. or any version of Windows prior to XP. Considering the PS3 went to manufacturing before the Zune was release, barring industrial espionage, I don’t see how Sony could have supported it out of the box at all. I wouldn’t really expect them to do so unless the Zune is as much of an iPod killer as Ballmer and co. imagine it to be.
I think this is more about the Zune being a POS than the PS3 being one.
yeah the Zune doesnt’ really work with any products so far.
BD ROM = Blu Ray? WTF does the D come from?
