PS3 Launch- Even More Problematic Than Before!
Just when you thought there couldn’t be anything else wrong with the PS3’s launch, it gets worse: aside from several different reports of backwards compatibility issues, now it turns out that the downloadable selection of PS1 games not exactly stellar.
According to GameBrink, the games available for download are limited to:
• Arc the Lad
• Biohazard: Director’s Cut Edition (AKA: Resident Evil)
• Bishi Bashi Special
• Jumping Flash!
• Konami Antiques MSX Collection Vol. 1
• Konami Antiques MSX Collection Vol. 2
• Hot Shots Golf 2
• Mr. Driller
• Silent Bomber
• Tekken 2
...yeah, I think I’ll just keep and play both my PS1 and PS2 instead of hocking them at the local pawnshop so I can afford a PS3 down payment. The more this sort of news slithers out of the woodwork, the more inclined I am to wait for a good long while until PS3 prices come down or some of these issues are addressed and fixed before I bust out my platinum card.

i was really looking forward for an extense list of PSone games.. lusts for Castlevania SotN & Silent Hill 1
this is really a HUGE let down.
hopefully they will add more games eventually.

those games aren’t all that bad..
resident evil – sweet.. (if it’s got the original fmv)
bishi bashi – awesome fun when drunk with friends
jumping flash – interesting game way back when
tekken 2 – best fighting game on the ps1 (tho it feels slow as hell now)
hot shots golf – is a bit of fun
and arc the lad – isn’t complete crap
6 of 10 ain’t that bad =) especially when they’re what.. $5 US? especially when nintendo are charging the same for NES games and the 360 has even older arcade games for the same price.

I disagree about Tekken 2: I maintain the Street Fighter and Darkstalkers games were far superior fighters… plus, y’know, the were quirky a lot of the time.
Um hello? Jumping Flash was the coolest. Did anyone else see the first gen PS1 games? they were pretty craptacular. At least in Jumping Flash you rode around in a robotic jumping bunny to make things interesting.
Martegod, that list will grow. Just like the VC list for the Wii will grow and how the XBLA list grows.
I’ll be getting my PS3 in… 2010, maybe? :P
Xbox Live has a limit of 50MB on its games (according to those guys who put procedural textures in their XBL game) and it seems to me that there aren’t any VC games on the Wii that would exceed that. I wonder if this first round of PS1 games is limited to those that won’t take an entire day to download over DSL, and that’s why it appears so lame.
The Street Fighter and Darkstalkers games were better than Tekken, and even better on the Saturn, where they had fewer missing animation frames, shorter load times and a better controller.
As for these games, I wouldn’t mind Jumping Flash, I loved that game back in the day.
