eBay Pushes Next Gen Consoles Out The Door

eBay

After the launches, it was no surprise to see Wiis and PS3s on eBay selling on eBay like hotcakes. They were popping up everywhere, selling for ridiculous amounts of dinero. One guy got $10,000 for his PS3, sold to a rabid fanatic foaming at the mouth for a piece of Sony’s newly pressed pie.

One could only guess how many Wiis and PS3s went up for sale on eBay, until now. Etoychest reports the figures:

Concerning the PlayStation 3, eBay officials note that between the system’s launch on November 17 and November 24, 14,675 systems were resold for an average price of $1,186.39. Taking into account the pre-sale numbers starting as far back as October 17, 28,233 PlayStation 3 systems were sold, with auctions ending for an average price of $1,369.90. The PS3 is available in two separate versions priced at $499 and $599, though eBay made no delineation between the two SKUs. Still, that’s a sizable return that I think we can all appreciate.

In comparison, the $249.99 Wii has garnered a much smaller return. From November 19 through November 24, 26,708 systems were sold for an average price of $412.53. Starting back at October 19, eBay has seen sales of 29,451 systems with an average ending price of $427.82. And just for kicks, eBay officials noted that Black Friday saw 26 Xbox 360’s sold for an average price of $429.94, while the twelve day period from November 12 through November 24 saw a whopping 331 systems moved for an average price of $420.62.
