Disney Gets Snuggly With Nintendo

Disney has announced that it will be creating a new studio called “Fall Line” that will be responsible for creating Disney games exclusively for Nintendo platforms. The studio will reside in Salt Lake City and be headed up by Scott Novis, who headed up the development of the recent Cars game.
Novis said kids find Xbox and PlayStation games technical and difficult to learn, while they typically can pick up a Nintendo game and start playing quickly. At $250, Nintendo’s Wii costs less than the Xbox and PlayStation 3. “It seems like with our brand, the Nintendo platform is a really good place to put our development effort and focus,’’ Novis said.
It will be interesting to see what Disney can come up with for the Wii and the DS. They certainly have the money to develop games that will take advantage of the touch screen and Wii-mote. Hopefully they will be able to create something sophisticated enough to go beyond the kiddie genre and entertain adults as well.

Oh great… so now we’ll get “That’s So Raven Wii” and “Lizzy McGuire’s Wii Adventures”?
Support is support, but we hardly need more shovelware on Nintendo’s systems.
Wow, I thought this already existed. Hopefully this will mean the ronstoppable game will be good.
how is Nintendo supposed to lose their “kid-friendly” image by gaining Disney as a developer?
the only thing i can hope for is ports of KH and KH2 on the Wii. oh yes…..
Frank, a better question is “Why would Nintendo want to lose their “kid-friendly” image?”
This image may be unpopular with the vocal minority of gaming blog commenters, but SELLS extremely well to families.
And why wouldn’t they want a specialized third party dedicated to their platforms? Why should they care about this whole “kid-friendly” image thing when doing what they’ve been doing has been making them large sums of money hand over fist? Yeah, sure…they aren’t in first place in the sales, but they are first in a much more important area…profits.
I can see this announcement two ways. Either (a), Nintendo has gained another exclusive developer, or (b), Nintendo hasn’t gotten another exclusive developer, but is assured of getting all the same endless Disney titles the other consoles get.
I’m guessing it’s (b). And that’s a lot better than©, which would have been “Nintendo loses another developer”, which we kept seeing again and again with the N64 and Gamecube.
