BioWare Austin Talks About Dragon Age MMO

The December 2006 issue of Games for Windows magazine sports a cover story about Bioware’s new MMORPG Dragon Age. Bioware is famous for their intricate storylines in such epic games as; Neverwinter Nights, Baldur’s Gate, and Knights of the Old Republic. Dragon Age will sport an evolved 3D tactical real-time combat system, and the branching conversation paths familiar to anyone who’s played a Bioware game.
This is the first time in a while that Bioware has premiered a game on Windows. Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire both premiered on the Xbox, while the upcoming Mass Effect is going to be exclusive to Xbox 360.
The folks at GFW spoke with the Bioware Austin crew about Dragon Age, going into detail about their emphasis on strong story elements to drive the gameplay in their MMO. Most MMO’s out there just lead characters from place to place on endless fetch quests. Bioware wants to break that mold with their MMO and create a rich winding narrative to propel their game.

This sounds great.
The first MMORPG that I played (I like to forget about that one month of Horizons) was WoW and I only started with it because of my love for the pre-existing storyline (since totaly warped).
I’ve tried other MMORPGs since then, but I’ve not been able to get into any because of the lack of an overall good story to back them up.
I hope this one will change that. And that there’ll be some single player content the likes of WoW.
They licensed the HeroEngine from Simutronics for it! A combat system evolved from Rolemaster table top games mixed with Bioware’s storytelling. I really have high hopes for this game.
I’m really looking forward to this. I’m such a fanboy of Baldur’s gate. The only MMO that I felt had a great story was FFXI. WoW and Lineage 2 always failed to move the storyline correctly so it became to hard to follow.
