More Troubling News About PS3 Launch

Ars Technica’s Ben Kuchera posted a particularly juicy piece of gossip today regarding the PS3’s launch. Kuchera talked to some EBGamestop managers he knows, and guess what? EBGamestop is less-than-thrilled about the console’s upcoming release.
Now that the company’s annual purchasing conference is over, word has gotten out store managers who saw Sony’s display were underwhelmed about the PS3 and Blu-ray technology. Apparently, both Nintendo and Microsoft had lines to play the Wii and Gears of War while Sony only had a PS3 on display under glass.
Not only was the PS3 not playable, but there was a huge difference in the displays between HD-DVD and Blu-ray… mainly, Microsoft had a huge setup with lots of surround sound in the middle of their suite while Sony had a tiny display in the back of the showroom.
According to Kuchera,
I asked [my manager friend about] his feelings going into the PS3 launch with no word on allocations or preorders, and no news on what will happen towards the holidays. “It’s going to be ugly, there is no way this launch is going to go well.”
Yeah, there’s a shock. How much do you want to bet that the first PS3 on eBay goes for over $2,000?

As an European, and in light of these increasing escalating problems for Sony with this launch, I expect a delay in my territory from March 2007 to fall 2007, much like the PSP… sigh
I hope it does. I plan on financing a down payment on a new car by selling a PS3 on ebay.
