Atsushi Inaba: Final Interview As Clover's President

Clover's President Atsushi Inaba

Clover recently announced that they were closing up shop. It’s very sad to see such a great company disperse, who was known for their solid game development. They were innovators, with titles like Viewtiful Joe, Okami, and God Hand. The man behind the company, Atsushi Inaba, was interviewed by 1up before the company fell.

The interview was conducted after Inaba left the company and shows that the studio was stalled, with no future plans.

...we’re going to take some time off. I don’t really have a lot of strong feelings that I need to make a game right now.

He goes on to talk about how Okami would have fared on the Wii:

If the Wii had existed when we began designing Okami, then we probably would have considered doing something with the controller.

I am left feeling that the creative forces behind Clover will regroup under another company, and continue to create their distinctive brand of gaming. It leaves me with the impression, ‘Clover, we barely knew ye.’
