PSX-P Hacks Old And New Schools

I was psyched to hear that the PS3 would let me play PS1 games on my PSP, but the pirate in me (arrr!) is tickled pink by Engadget’s report that an enterprising young hacker named Yoshihiro has released the first PS1 emulator for the PSP – versions below 2.71. The application, dubbed PSX-P, requires some kind of fancy BIOS file and ripped ISOs of game discs that you legally own, of course. Check out Engadget for more, and although it doesn’t look like a gold medal finalist, I’m super psyched to play Final Fantasy VII on my PSP however I can. Right?

The only problem with this emulator is that it only averages about 10fps in most games, making them pretty unplayable.
