American McGee Back For More

If you ever played the creepily beautiful Alice, then you’ll be psyched to read Destructoid’s latest find: that American McGee is founding a new studio (in China) and starting work on a new game, which he describes as an episodic game set in a dark, fairytale universe. That’s all I needed to hear – I’m totally sold. Mr. McGee has also hired character design artist Ken Wong, whose stuff you should check out purely for visual bliss. With the Rob Zombie of game design behind this guy’s art, American McGee’s new game will surely rock our world so hard our eyes bleed.

What’s more, there’s reason to hold out secret hope that this game might at last be the long-promised, McGee-ified Oz, which saw its demise at the hands of risk-fearing publishers back in 2004. Reason being, McGee wanted to make a film of his vision of Oz (dark fairytale universe much?) to establish the franchise and encourage publishers to take a chance the second time around. Just this March, McGee announced that he’d finished the script and shipped it off to Hollywood. So is it outrageous to think that maybe, just maybe, we’re finally gonna get to play inside American’s head again?

Check out American McGee’s blog to read more about the man of many mysteries and his upcoming action/adventure deathblast, Bad Day In LA .
